Congress playing obstructionist role

We have an economic crisis at hand with food prices going through the roof and energy prices, especially gasoline and diesel, higher than any time in our history. Yet our elected leaders in the Democratic-controlled Congress are willing to continue to play an obstructionist role just as they have done in foreign affairs since George Bush was first elected.
Even with economic storm clouds gathering that are surely a precursor to a meltdown of our economy, many of the president's opponents in Congress are willing to risk everything, including a collapse of the economy, to see George Bush's presidency fail so they can say "I told you so." These self-centered, devious elected representatives of our legislative branch of government have lost their moral compass.
This country has huge untapped reserves of crude oil in Alaska and offshore both on the East and West coasts. By tapping those domestic reserves of crude oil, we could influence world crude oil prices in a positive way and at the same time become nearly crude oil independent in less than three years. Yet our elected leaders in Congress will not allow drilling for oil in those areas simply because they have a sworn agenda to do anything and everything within their power to see this administration fail.
They have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to let our country suffer the consequences of possibly losing the war against terrorism worldwide by their obstructionist efforts, and now those same leaders in Congress are showing a total disregard for the economic suffering of the people of this country, all for their own selfish agenda to bring down the Bush administration.
The economic crisis we are in is real and will continue to get worse in the coming months, negatively impacting the majority of the people in our country. It is time for the people to speak up and demand that Congress stop the oneupmanship and get down to business of enacting legislation to open up and allow oil drilling in Alaska, as well as offshore in the continental United States. We have the technology to protect the wilderness and do minimal damage to the ecology.
Additionally, we should get off dead center and devise an effective nuclear power program that restarts the building of nuclear power plants for electrical generation.
The time to act is now. Congress should be representing the interest of the people who elected them to office and stop using their elected position to pursue a private agenda of power grabbing at the expense of the well-being of the people they represent.
