Lions suffer first loss

The third time was not a charm for Greater Loudoun Tuesday morning in the Babe Ruth 13U World Series.

After winning each of their first two games by one run, the Lions were not able to duplicate that same late-inning magic in their third one-run decision of the World Series.

Hopewell Valley, N.J. snapped a tie with a run in the fifth inning and held on for a 3-2 victory, their first win of the World Series.

The game originally started on Monday night, but play was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain and lightning. Play was resumed Tuesday at 8:50 a.m.

Greater Loudoun still has an opportunity to win the National Division. The Lions can clinch the division and earn a bye into the tournament semifinals if they can defeat Youngstown, Ohio in the final game of round robin play.

Game time is 8 p.m. at Fireman's Field in Purcellville. The elimination round is scheduled to begin Wednesday with the championship game set for Friday at 7 p.m.
