Herndon's Burkholder going back to Leesburg

Herndon Zoning Administrator and Deputy Director of Community Development Wade Burkholder is relinquishing his employment with the town after only six months. Burkholder is going back to Leesburg, where he worked before coming to Herndon.

The Town of Leesburg announced Tuesday that, as part of its continuing reorganization efforts, it has re-hired its former senior planner as its new deputy zoning administrator.

Burkholder, who left Leesburg in January to go to Herndon, has now been rehired to fill the vacant Deputy Zoning Administrator position. This position became available when previous deputy Kevin Lawlor was reassigned to the new Department of Plan Review.

Burkholder, who was employed in Leesburg from 2004 until his departure in January, was the Zoning Administrator for Herndon for approximately six months before accepting the offer to return to Leesburg.

Herndon Director of Community Development Lisa Gilleran said that she will miss Burkholder, who “took to the job very well.” She said Burkholder made an “exemplary” deputy director of community development.

“We are very excited to have Wade returning,” stated Kaj Dentler, deputy town manager and acting director of planning for Leesburg. “He was a valued employee during his previous tenure here, and we were sorry to see him leave.”

Burkholder, who declined to comment, will begin his new position in Leesburg on July 21.
