Local 4-year-old a contestant on 'America's Got Talent'

Four-year-old Kaitlyn Maher of Ashburn has hit the big time.

The precocious preschooler is a contestant on the NBC-TV show "America's Got Talent," and is holding her own against other contestants, some 10 times her age.

"America's Got Talent" is the only talent competition open to anyone of any age. "This is our third season and Kaitlyn is without a doubt, the cutest kid that we've had on the show. Four years old and not only looks adorable but can really hold a tune," said James Sunderland, an executive producer of the show.

Maher has already passed the audition stage and has advanced to the second round, "bootcamp" in Las Vegas, where she will have the opportunity to perfect her singing act before appearing on the show Aug. 5 at 9 p.m.

Already, a video of Maher's New York audition has garnered nearly 2 million hits on YouTube.

"Kaitlyn is so small on stage but she really fills the room," said Chad Redick of the Conservatory Ballet in Reston, where Maher attends once a week -- when she is not busy performing on television or in Las Vegas.
