Herndon senior Christian McLaughlin was named the Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year for the state of Virginia in 2007-08. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound midfielder scored 14 goals and dished out 16 assists this season, leading the Hornets to a 14-2 record and the Concorde District championship. Herndon was ranked No. 1 in Virginia and No. 8 in the nation.

"Christian is a very special player," head coach Sean Lanigan said in a statement. "He always wants the ball at his feet and he knows where it goes. He sees things that are happening three plays in advance. He is a true playmaker in the middle. You can't lapse three minutes without him having an impact on the game."

McLaughlin was also named first team All-District, first team All-Region and first team All-State this season. He will attend the University of Virginia in the fall and will play soccer for the Cavaliers.
