Malicious wounding at Cedar Lane
On March 6 at about 8:24 a.m., officers from the Town of Vienna Police Department were dispatched to the area near the CVS store in the Cedar Lane Shopping Center in Southeast Vienna. The initial call was from a witness stating that an individual was wielding a knife. Upon his arrival, MPO Randy Burchfield found a 47-year-old Hispanic male bleeding from the upper chest as a result of an apparent knife wound.
Authorities said Burchfield began administering first aid and was able to control the bleeding from the wound. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded and began caring for the injured man, who was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Additional Vienna Police units were simultaneously searching the area for the suspect and the Fairfax County Police Department’s helicopter was summoned to assist in the search.
According to investigators, witnesses stated that the alleged assailant, later identified as the Dimas Chacon-Morales, 40, of no-fixed address, allegedly was in an argument with the victim, and at one point allegedly reached out and cut the victim with a utility type knife. When Chacon-Morales started to turn, the witnesses began to run away towards Park Street and the suspect ran in the opposite direction toward the apartment complex on Cedar Lane.
Area schools were notified of the incident and began taking precautions to ensure the safety of students.
A short time later, another witness observed a suspicious individual matching the suspect's description running through front yards along DeSale Street near Patrick Street. This witness called the Vienna Police and continued to follow the suspect and was able to provide updates as to his location, which assisted Vienna Police units in quickly locating the subject.
Vienna Motorcycle Officer Tim Seitz spotted the individual matching the lookout which had been given and affected an arrest. Chacon-Morales was taken into custody at the corner of Tapawingo Road and Nutley Street using minimal force. Ofc. Pat Shaw transported the suspect back to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by Det. Tina Brook. Chacon-Morales was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was formally charged with malicious wounding and is currently being held without bond. Authorities said the incident does not appear to be gang related in any way.

Yet, another reason not to live in Vienna... why is this news??? It is common knowledge that Cedar Lane is the center for crime, violence and gang activity in Vienna.

It's time for a larger Police presence at the Cedar Lane Shopping Center.
It's very close to the W&OD bikepath too, so it could be a bike patrol station.
If not, then they need to park a camera equipped patrol car there, pointed directly at the CVS and Young's Market. It is loitering central down there.
