Second Flingfest ready to go

The Centreville Community Foundation hopes to increase the quality of Flingfest by 10 times this year. The event at Bull Run Regional Park will be May 15 to 18.

The nonprofit that promotes the Centreville area began the annual event last year to benefit scholarships in honor of deceased Virginia Tech victims Erin Peterson and Reema Samaha.

Over 6,000 people attended the event last year, despite rainy weather. The foundation raised about $25,000.

We've boosted the quality of the event probably tenfold,” Marvin Powell, president of the foundation, said.

This year, Bill Emerson is scheduled to perform and there will be a fire truck and antique car show.

There will also be the Battle at Bull Run 5K Challenge on May 17. Participants will receive free admission to the festival.

For more information about the race, call 703-819-5270. Visit www.ticketlatino.com for tickets to Flingfest.
