Executive Committee denies Loudoun County appeals

The Virginia High School League's Executive Committee met today in Charlottesville and denied written appeals from Loudoun Valley and Heritage high schools, upholding the Redistricting and Reclassification Committee's decision to place those schools in the Northwest Region's Cedar Run District in 2009-10. The Committee also voted to allow Stone Bridge to remain a member of the Liberty District.

The Committee's decisions bring an end to a drawn out process, which originally had all three Loudoun County schools moving to the Northwest Region before Stone Bridge won an R&R appeal last month.

"I was glad to see them abide by what the R&R Committee had set up," Northern Region chairman Mike Campbell said. "If they didn't, that would create a lot of problems within the system."

With Fairfax moving from the Concorde District beginning in 2009-10 and Stone Bridge staying put, the Liberty District will now have nine teams, while the Concorde will have just six. Campbell said the Northern Region still has the option to redistrict its schools, but he does not see that happening at this time.
