South Lakes announces 2008 Hall of Fame inductees

South Lakes High School has announced its list of 2008 inductees for the Seahawks Sports Hall of Fame. Established in 2006 to honor those people whose contributions helped created and sustain Seahawk pride and sportsmanship, South Lakes will welcome administrator John Broaddus; coach Alice Gooley; athletes Troy Allen, Jerome Scott, Samantha Sybert and Gabrielle Tapscott; and physician George Lynch to its Hall.

The inductees will be honored at a banquet held at Hidden Creek Country Club at 6 p.m. on June 6. Tickets are $60, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Hall of Fame Scholarship Program. For ticket information, contact Elizabeth Knapp at 703-715-4500 or Elizabeth.Knapp@fcps.edu.

Registration is now open for McLean Youth Soccer's Premier Soccer Academy Summer Camp for ages 5-16. Players from MYS and other clubs are invited to register for weekly sessions offered June 16 through Aug. 15 at Lewinsville Park in McLean. Registration is open for the Reston Youth Association Fall 2008 Football and Cheerleading programs. The RYA programs are open to youth ages 6-16 in Reston and the surrounding areas. The fee is $100 for those registered by June 30, and financial assistance is available. There are three levels of play in each weight class based on age, weight and experience. The 21st annual Herndon Festival Spring Golf Tournament will be played on May 29 at Herndon Centennial Golf Course. The tournament, which costs $150 for individuals and $600 per foursome, kicks off at 12:30 p.m. in a shotgun format. The full package includes lunch and dinner, beverages throughout the day, use of the driving range and gift bags. There will be trophies for the winners, as well as various contests on the course. On June 7 and 8, the Side-Out Foundation brings two days of exciting volleyball competition to Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. The Side-Out Foundation, in cooperation with Inova Fairfax Hospital, its sponsors and participants, has raised increasing amounts through donations and entry fees for local organizations involved in the fight against breast cancer.
