Man shot on Route 1

On Monday, May 5, around 2:20 p.m., a Fairfax County Police officer was at a traffic stop when a man walked up to his cruiser and told the officer he had been shot. The officer was stopped on Richmond Highway and Hagel Circle.

The victim, a 30-year-old Woodbridge man, told the officer that he had "gotten into an altercation," with his former girlfriend, police said, when a man approached and shot the victim in the upper body.

The victim was medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, Carlos McKethan, 30, of 8420 Huerta Court in Alexandria, was arrested on Thursday, May 8, at the Brookside Motel on Richmond Highway. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with malicious shooting and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
