ViVa! Vienna! to raise thousands for Rotary

ViVa! Vienna!, Vienna's combination celebration and charity event, will be held this Memorial Day Weekend, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24.

The event will cover Church Street with rides, concession stands and a wide range of local vendors, all of whom pay fees to Vienna Rotary for the space. Vienna Rotary than donates the profits to scores of local charities. Last year Viva! Vienna! generated more than $84,000 for charities.

At Viva! Vienna!, festival-goers can buy handicrafts, glad-hand with political candidates, eat a chili dog and ride a merry-go-round in the same city block. The three-day event has been rising in popularity each year.

On Monday, Memorial Day, one of the scheduled events is a salute to veterans at noon, though the performance stages at ViVa! Vienna! will feature live entertainment throughout the weekend.

Attendees can also give the weekend an environmental twist by recycling “e-waste” --personal computers, printers, phones, faxes, laptops, and related devices and accessories – free of charge on Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26, from noon to 6 p.m. in the James Madison High School parking lot.
