Teenager assaulted, robbed in Burke

A 14-year-old Burke girl was assaulted and robbed on May 10 just after midnight in the area of Oak Leather Drive and Burr Oak Way.

Fairfax County Police said the girl, who was going with friends to meet an acquaintance, was confronted by a group of juveniles who allegedly began assaulting her and demanded her cell phone and jacket. After she gave up both items, the girl was able to run to a nearby home for assistance. Her mother took her for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, police apprehended the group of juveniles, which consisted of six girls and four boys ranging in age from 12 to 15. Each was charged with assault by mob, robbery and malicious wounding. The arrested juveniles live in Fairfax, Loudoun and Stafford counties.


Teacher allegedly assaults student

A teacher allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old student at Cameron Elementary School on May 14.

At around 1 p.m., “there appeared to be some discussion about the student's behavior that led to the alleged assault,” according to a police statement about the incident. The student was not hurt and told his parents of the incident, who alerted police.

Maria Waugh, 42, of 6220 Quander Road in Alexandria was served with a warrant for assault at the Franconia District Station and was released on her signature.


Police look for lottery ticket thief

Fairfax County Police detectives at the Mason District Station in Annandale are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who has broken into several businesses, including two in Falls Church, and stolen lottery tickets.

According to investigators, one of the burglaries occurred Dec. 27, 2007, around 6 a.m. at the Lakeside Market, 3800 Powell Lane in Falls Church. More recently, a second burglary occurred at the Woodlake Convenience Store, 3100 S. Manchester St. in Falls Church, on May 8 shortly after 5 a.m. Both businesses are in apartment buildings. The suspect’s image was captured on surveillance video.

Police described the suspect as a white male with brown hair, 25 to 35 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. In the video, he is wearing a white, button-down shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.

Lorton robbery

On the evening of May 14, two men were robbed at gunpoint in the 9700 block of Hagel Circle. At around 11 p.m., the victims, ages 18 and 20, were walking to a friend's house when two men approached, pointing guns at them.

The victims were forced to the ground, and a suspect hit the 18-year-old victim with a gun, police said. The victims were not seriously hurt.

The suspects were described as black men in their 20s, both about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing blue jeans and black, hooded sweatshirts covering their faces.


Arrests made in paintball store burglary

City of Fairfax Police have charged two suspects in connection with the April 15 burglary of the Check It Paintball store, 9931 Main St., during which a quantity of paintball equipment was allegedly taken.

According to investigators, on the evening of May 14, officers took a 16-year-old City of Fairfax youth into custody at his residence. He was charged in juvenile petitions with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and grand larceny, and taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said a second suspect was also arrested the same day. Daoud Nayef Ayyash, 20, of 10710 St. Johns Place in Fairfax, was observed on Elmont Court in Fairfax City and subsequently taken into custody, charged with burglary and grand larceny, and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Bond for Ayyash was set at $7,000.

Information developed during the course of the investigation in cooperation with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office resulted in detectives obtaining arrest warrants for the pair, authorities said.


Man charged with protective order violation

City of Fairfax Police served a warrant to Jerry Alan Packard, 48, at an address in the 3500 block of Chain Bridge Road, charging him with misdemeanor violation of a protective order.

According to investigators, on May 14 at 8:43 p.m. in the 10600 block of Ashby Place, a woman reported that she had allegedly received a telephone call from Packard, against whom a protective order prohibiting any contact had been issued. An officer escorted the woman to a magistrate who issued a misdemeanor warrant. Once served with the warrant, Packard was ordered held on $5,000 bond.
