Supervisors extend Islamic school lease by one year

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted on May 19 to approve a one-year property lease continuation for the Islamic Saudi Academy, a grades 2-12 private school in the Alexandria section of the county funded by the Saudi Arabian government.

The county receives about $2.2 million a year for the property at 8333 Richmond Highway. The school operates a second campus for children in grades in prekindergarten through first grade at 11121 Popes Head Road in Fairfax.

Founded in 1984, the bilingual English-Arabic school teaches a dual American and Middle Eastern curriculum. Girls and boys attend class together through the second grade, after which they are taught separately.
